Feminism Ideals is a series of conversations about the place of women artists in the world of art, galleries, and museums. This lively dialogue begins January 29 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. It will continue on the last Thursday evening of every month through May here at the Museum.

The Long Beach Museum of Art has a long history of collecting and exhibiting works from women artists. 25% of the collection is from women artists. LBMA also organized the first West Coast museum exhibition exclusively for women artists entitled Invisible/Visible in 1972.

Karen Kleinfelder, Director, School of the Arts, California State University, Long Beach will kick-off the series by illuminating significant moments in art history by women artists past and present. Kleinfelder was awarded a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan where her thesis, The Artist, His Model, Her Image, His Gaze: Picasso's Pursuit of the Model, won the Distinguished Dissertation Award and was later published by the University of Chicago Press. Kleinfelder is a recipient of a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship. A lively speaker, she is certain to a bring fresh perspective to being a woman and an artist today.
