Become a Docent

The Museum wants you to become a Docent! Hundreds of dedicated Docents help the Museum each year and are crucial to LBMA’s goal of serving its mission to the community.
Docents at Long Beach Museum of Art

There are many ways to get involved and to contribute your time. The Education Department continually recruits docents in order to fulfill public demand for tours or to assist staff in implementing one of its many educational programs. In addition, Docents support the Museum staff when it holds special events throughout the year that help raise money for its education and exhibition programming.

As an LBMA Docent you will discover a diverse group of people who enjoy working with children and adults, and sharing their love of art. They are teachers, guides, and tour leaders who are enthusiastic and committed to the Museum and its mission. Whether you have only recently discovered an interest to learn and teach about art or have been involved in artistic activities for a number of years, you will find LBMA Docents who share your interests.

As an LBMA Docent you will continue to learn about art and the Museum beyond our training through regular meetings, visits with artists, and tours of local galleries and museums.

For more information on the Museum’s Docent program, please fill out the LBMA Docent Application.

Please note due to circumstances beyond the Museum’s control, the “Gego: Silver Linings” exhibition scheduled for January 2018 at the Long Beach Museum of Art has been canceled.
